EILEEN, Sandra and Richard Hughes have decided to put Osborne Lodge Stables on the market. The 16-acre Curragh property has 99 stables.

Following the recent decision by Sandra Hughes to cease training, the renowned yard on the edge of the Curragh will be sold or rented out.

Many top-class horses have been trained at Osborne Lodge. The late Dessie Hughes was based here for his entire training career and his best horse was dual Champion Hurdle winner Hardy Eustace. Cheltenham Festival winners Oulart and Our Conor, plus Irish Grand National winner Timbera were other high-profile horses trained here.

Although Sandra Hughes only held the licence for a couple of seasons, she famously trained Thunder And Roses to win the Irish Grand National, and Lieutenant Colonel won two Grade 1 hurdle races for her.

The main residence fronting the property includes three bedrooms. It is in excellent condition, as is the second bungalow residence, built approximately 10 years ago.

Being immediately adjacent to the Curragh gallops allows horses based at Osborne Lodge to be walked directly from the stables to the gallops – a major bonus for any training establishment.

Willie Coonan of REA Coonan in Maynooth and Celbridge is the agent for the sale.

He commented: “I have no doubt that this is one of the most attractive Curragh properties to come on the market for some time.”
