THE current outbreak of Equine Herpes Virus (EHV) paralysis in horses at a venue in Spain is very concerning. There have been hard-hitting accounts of the severity of the disease suffered by some of the affected horses, which is devastating for their connections and highly worrying for the whole industry.

Regulators have implemented strict control procedures in accordance with veterinary guidelines across multiple countries, including Ireland. Currently there are no reports of any illness in horses associated with this outbreak here, and strenuous efforts will continue to try and ensure this remains the case.
