VETERAN galloper Dundonnell turned back the years with victory in the Chinese New Year Cup Handicap (1,400 metres) at Sha Tin’s Chinese new year fixture last Sunday, giving freshman trainer Frankie Lor his first Class 1 feature in front of almost 90,000 spectators.

Bred by Juddmonte, Dundonnell was originally trained by Roger Charlton and won the Group 3 Acomb Stakes at York as a two-year-old. He was narrowly beaten by Toronado at Group 2 level the same season and was transferred to Hong Kong after running unplaced in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot in 2013.
