RACE 1: MOON KOON PLATE

#2 Super Model ran well enough over 1200m on debut. It will be interesting to see what he does in this spot with Victor Wong aboard, even if there were concerns over his breathing first-up. #3 Quadruple Double has finished second twice to the current standout griffin Styling City. There is no Styling City to overcome this time and he is sure to be a heavy favourite. Newcomers #7 Touchdown Striker and #6 Thanks Forever can get into the placings.

RACE 2: TIMELESS TRADITIONS HANDICAP

#11 Jimson The Famous has not won in over a year but he gets a significant jockey upgrade with Zac Purton booked. He might be better suited at the 1200m, but he’s not without a hope in here. #4 Happy Beauty ran poorly on turf last time out but he is a course and distance winner and he’s not without a hope with Victor Wong aboard. #6 Mi Blanco was simply unsuited the way the race was run over 2200m last time out. Back to the dirt, he’s a threat. #7 The Invincible is a place chance at this distance on the dirt.

RACE 3: RACING HERITAGE HANDICAP

#1 Showing Character drops to Class 5 for the first time since a big win in December, 2016. He is known more for his Happy Valley prowess, but he did run a good race over this course and distance in Class 3 once upon a time and, in this grade, he’s a player. #10 Otouto has run well in three starts for Tony Millard, all from wide gates. He has a better draw here and can’t be underestimated. #3 Yourthewonforme has three wins from five starts in Class 5 this season. He’s not without a hope. #8 Scarborough Fair is next best.

RACE 4: HAPPY VALLEY CLUBHOUSE HANDICAP

#8 Pikachu tends to find this sort of company too tough but this is not the strongest Class 2 field ever assembled. He carries only 109 pounds with the claim for Victor Wong and he looks well-placed. #2 Rocketeer has his first run for Frankie Lor here. If he can find his best form, he’s in contention. #4 Stimulation is the first son of the all-conquering Deep Impact to enter training at Sha Tin. Formerly named Akihiro, Stimulation arrives in Hong Kong with form around the likes of Recoletos and Waldgeist. He will improve for this run but he’s worth watching. #9 Rickfield was well-beaten in the Group 3 Queen Mother Memorial Cup over 2400m but he had been good before that. He has little Sha Tin form to speak of but he could get into the placings with no weight on his back.

RACE 5: BEAS RIVER COUNTRY CLUB HANDICAP

#11 Multimax’s career has been on a downward spiral since two victories in mid-2016, including a short-head victory over eventual Group 1 winner D B Pin. He’s started to come around at his last two starts and this looks a prime spot for him to gain another victory. #6 Very Sweet Orange has shown promise in two of his three starts. He has an awkward draw but he’s a chance in an open race. #2 Little Bird gets Zac Purton aboard and is sure to have plenty of support here. #10 Sunny Orient is his own worst enemy at the start but if he can jump away OK, he’s in the mix.

RACE 6: SHA TIN CLUBHOUSE HANDICAP

#1 Bullish Glory is putting it all together but just hasn’t been able to break through. He was better at the start last time out and if he can jump away OK, he’s going to get his chance to break through. #6 You Have My Word has been better this season and looks a completely different horse. The way that he sprinted last time out suggests he has another win in him off his current mark and he can score in this spot. #3 Garlic Yeah mixes his form but should be somewhere around the mark. #2 Hay Run has been honest in recent starts without winning. He can run well again.

RACE 7: BEIJING CLUBHOUSE HANDICAP

#12 Good Choice Ahead makes his first start on dirt here. There are some dirt factors in his pedigree – his second dam Amen was stakes-placed on the surface in Kentucky – and his racing style appears well-suited to the track. Don’t be surprised to see him win in this spot. #5 Chater Thunder won his first two course and distance runs earlier in the season, while he finished only a half-length from the winner in a blanket finish last time out. He can figure. #7 Imperial Concorde is honest and is a contender with the right run. #1 Best Reward has beaten one horse home in four starts this season. However, he is unbeaten from two starts on the surface and drastic improvement is not out of the question.

RACE 8: THE MEMBERS CUP

#7 Alcari has disappointed since winning handily at the start of the season. Back to this course and distance might help him return to the winners’ circle. #3 Cruising makes his Hong Kong debut after winning two of his four starts in South Australia. He has trialled well and looks to be a fairly straightforward conveyance. #2 Lucky Hero is looking like he’d be suited with a step up to 1200m but this appears the easiest race he’s struck and so it wouldn’t shock to see him break through here. #1 Prince Harmony is not without a chance.

RACE 9: BEAS RIVER EQUESTRIAN CENTRE HANDICAP

#1 Handsome Bo Bo had won three starts in a row in impressive fashion, getting to the lead and dominating from the front. Last time out, things went wrong quickly after the start and his race was over before they reached the turn. He has plenty of weight again but expect a far better effort this time around. #10 Master Albert has disappointed in his 11 starts to date. He returns to the Sha Tin 1200m, where he has run well without winning, and from a good draw he shapes as the main danger. #4 Tianchi Monster was a Listed winner at 2100m in New Zealand but he has trialled well enough to suggest he could get into the placings fresh. #2 Roundabout gets 10 pounds off and he’s not without a hope.

RACE 10: THE HILLTOP IN THE VALLEY HANDICAP

#12 Lucky Master has finished no closer than sixth in 10 starts this season. However, he has run well enough over this course and distance and he’s getting to a rating where he can turn his form around. He’s drawn well, too. #4 Beauty Day was mixing his form earlier in the season but was showing signs that he’d win fairly quickly. The brother to Group 2 winner Beauty Flame looks well-placed in this spot. #6 Big Bully was well-beaten on debut but made a big step forward to run third last time out. If he can hold that form, he’s a chance here. #14 Top Ace has 104 pounds on his back and, if there’s some give in the ground, he wouldn’t surprise by scoring his first win in 30 Hong Kong starts.

RACE 11: THE RACING CLUB HANDICAP

#8 Diamond King was racing well at the start of the season and hasn’t stepped out since HKIR day in December. His last trial was good enough and he can figure from a good gate. #2 California Joy has finished second twice over this course and distance at his last two starts. He rarely runs a bad race in this grade and he’s going to be in the mix. #5 Volitation has been around the mark recently. He gets Zac Purton aboard and he will be some chance in this spot. #7 Villa Fionn relished the step up to 1400m last time out. With blinkers applied, he’s a contender.
