I AM living proof that it is never too late to make a change in life. Having worked as a chef until 2016, I decided on a total career change the following September, taking up a position as a stud groom at Ringfort Stud. Although I had previous hands-on experience working with half-breds and hunters, up until that time I had never handled a thoroughbred. Over the last five years, I have gradually gained experience and confidence in my new career, something that was recently recognised when I was named as winner of the Newcomer Award at the Godolphin Stud & Stable Staff Awards.

Growing up on a family farm, I had exposure to all kinds of animals. Aside from sheep and cattle, we kept a couple of ponies and hunters. I learned to ride around the age of eight or nine, then moving on to do pony club and hunting. Throughout my teens, I competed in showjumping and event classes, while also hunting with the local Westmeath Harriers. Even after finishing college and going on to start employment, I remained involved with the sport.
