SINCE I wrote my last article the beautiful autumn has passed and as the winter sets in, I am listening to the wind outside and am sitting here thinking of old friends and an old horse called Micky. Many of you will have heard about the tragic passing of a retired couple in Carndonagh and as that tragedy enfolded, I was given the task of putting Micky down.
The owner of this aged thoroughbred had had him since he was about eight years old. Micky came to Inishowen as a flapper as they are known as up here. As a young horse he raced around the countryside and was quite successful in one or two races. The owner had a photo of him just being pipped at the post in what was his closest race.
