A COMEBACK success at Galway last month signalled that Western Victory could be a force in decent mares’ races this season and that view was borne out in resounding fashion as Declan Queally’s charge picked up a valuable black type triumph in the Listed Pat Walsh Memorial Irish EBF Mares Hurdle.

The 130-rated daughter of Westerner headed the market at 6/4 and she adopted her habitual position at the head of the field after jumping a couple of flights. She still looked to be going strongly for Sean Flanagan when she turned for home and asserted in fine style after two out for a resounding seven lengths victory over chief market rival Surin.
