THE afternoon began with a fluent success for Sir Michael Stoute’s 7/4 favourite Poet’s Word in the Group 3 Betfred Glorious Stakes over a mile and a half.

Not seen since a fair second at the Chester May meeting, that proved no problem as he travelled easily in the group behind early leader Lord Yeats. Considering how well he ran at Newmarket last time, when battling back to beat Second Step, Jedd O’Keefe’s four-year-old was disappointing here and soon folded as the challengers moved alongside three furlongs out.
