DEFINITLY Red is now Cheltenham Gold Cup bound after he captured the trial for that race, the Grade 2 Cotswold Chase, over the three and a quarter miles of Prestbury Park on Saturday. The nine-year-old is owned by P J Martin who paid £110,000 for him as a four-year-old at the Brightwells Cheltenham November Sale.
That investment has more than paid off and to date the son of Definite Article (Indian Ridge) has won over £285,000 with 12 wins on the racecourse. At the time of his sale from Ballynoe Stables he had won on his third start in a point-to-point at Loughanmore for handler Brian Hamilton, running out a 20 length winner. On his debut at Maralin he finished second to Wounded Warrior.
