DISPERSAL drafts from Trevor Hemmings’ Gleadhill House Stud and various trainers, alongside the annual reduction in numbers from Michael O’Leary’s Gigginstown House Stud, provided a number of highlights at this year’s one-day Goffs UK September HIT Sale on Tuesday. Throw in a draft of 22 lots sold without reserve by Godolphin, and the sales company can only have been pleased with the outcome.

There was one standout on the day, the sale of Hemmings’ Grade 3 winner Stoney Mountain from Henry Daly’s Downton Hall Stables. Successful in the Betfair Stayers’ Handicap Hurdle at Haydock last November, the seven-year-old son of the Danehill stallion Mountain High sold to agent Tom Malone and Anita Gillies for £140,000. He is one of a pair of winners out of a placed half-sister to Grade 2 chase winner The Nightingale.
