SOME time after signing for the top-priced lot at Tuesday night’s Goresbridge Go For Gold Sale, British event rider Sam Ecroyd was still in a slight state of shock as he contemplated taking charge of the three-year-old OBOS Quality 004 gelding (Lot 38) who had been consigned by Wexford’s Jason Higgins and cost his new connections €59,000.

“I’ve no plans at all for the horse,” said the Cheshire-based rider who was second in the CCI2* Under 25 class at Tattersalls International this year on Wodan III having won the same competition 12 months previously with Tullaher Sunrise. “All I can tell you is that he will be given every chance and we will produce him to be the best he can be.
