FRESH from a tremendous three-winner haul on Irish Champions Weekend, Dermot Weld enjoyed a double which he shared with the Aga Khan. The first to strike was the promising three-year-old Bashiyr who progressed from winning a maiden on his second start at Gowran earlier this month to take the Donnellys Of Barna Rated Race over a mile. The son of Invincible Spirit kept close to the pace for Chris Hayes before eventually getting on top early in the last furlong. He went on to account for the 86-rated Zander by a length and a half.

“It’s testing ground and some of the horses were struggling out there but he battled well. We’ll look for a similar race over 10 furlongs for him next,” reported Weld.
