AT the start of what was both a surreal and decidedly eerie week, one of the great constants of the Galway Festival, Dermot Weld, lent a degree of normality to proceedings by supplying the opening winner when Blue For You captured the Claregalway.ie Irish EBF (C&G) Maiden.

A first winner of this race in four years for the Rosewell House trainer, Blue For You (8/1) was stepping forward from his debut sixth in a hot Leopardstown maiden won by Masen. Oisin Orr angled out to challenge with three furlongs to run on the Moyglare Stud-owned son of New Approach, who finished out with purpose to sweep by the favourite Wembley and score by three-quarters of a length.
