RACEHORSE owner Tom Jones from Naas, Co Kildare, died peacefully on Saturday in the Beacon Hospital after a long illness.

He and his wife Dolores enjoyed some great days with Beechmount Whisper, winner of five races on the flat over the past two seasons for trainer Patrick Prendergast.

Prendergast said: "Tom had a lot of friends in racing and many of them may not be aware that he passed away at the weekend. Beechmount Whisper was a great tonic to him during his illness - he sometimes got out of hospital for the day to see the horse run."

His funeral Mass is at 11.30am on Tuesday in Eadestown, Co Kildare.
