DEAUVILLE’S summer fixtures drew to a close in low key fashion over the past few days. The final feature race, Sunday’s Lucien Barriere Grand Prix de Deauville, a 12-and-a-half furlong event which has for some time struggled to justify its Group 2 status, was won by the Carlos Laffon-Parias-trained Ziyad.

However the four-year-old is ineligible for various top Group 1 races including the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe because he is a gelding.
