PINATUBO’S triumph was the middle leg of a quickfire Appleby-trained stakes-race treble, sandwiched as it was between the €38,000 Listed Qatar Prix Amandine (seven furlongs) win of Althiqa and the €56,000 Group 3 Qatar Prix de Ris-Orangis (six furlongs) success of Royal Crusade.

It was also the third leg of a four-timer for Godolphin home-breds as, before Althiqa, the André Fabre-trained Earthlight had made a superb first racecourse appearance for nine and a half months when marginally bettering Royal Crusade’s six-furlong time in the €38,000 Listed Qatar Prix Kistena.
