CHARLIE Appleby has been making hay in France this summer and continued his fine run when Brundtland took his unbeaten career record to four (including three French races) over one mile, seven furlongs going off the 1/2 favourite.

Having made the running at a sedate tempo, he was given a fright by Lillian Russell (wearing the Godolphin second colours) before asserting his superiority in the last 50 yards to score by half a length under William Buick.
