THE BHA have become easy targets and get frequent abuse with charges of incompetence and giving racing a bad name laid at their door. There’s no doubt that many of the recent decisions seemed at odds with general opinions in the sport and akin to shooting themselves in the foot.

However, after last weekend’s racing at Ffos Las where Gorgehous Lliege was pulled up by jockey Callum Whillans before the last and then shortly afterwards, completed the course in the three and a half miles West Wales National, if you want to find someone guilty of bringing racing into the area of negative publicity, look no further than those who wrote the headlines over the weekend.
