GLENCAIRN House, not far from Leopardstown, is home to the British ambassador to Ireland. Still a great house, it adjoins Glencairn Stables from where many McGrath winners emerged over decades. Today, the house and stables are tucked quietly away behind a Luas stop.

Entering the gates of Glencairn brings the visitor to another world, and to the residence of His Excellency Robin Barnett, the present ambassador. Sadly, this career diplomat will be leaving Ireland in September, having completed his last post. While he admits that racing was not a sport that registered strongly on his radar when he came to this country, he is now an avowed fan and has been a regular racegoer during his four years here.
