THE standout lot on the opening day of the Fasig-Tipton Selected Yearling Showcase was a daughter of Quality Road out of the Group 1 winner Marvellous, and this impeccably-bred filly was quickly past the million dollar mark, the auctioneer’s gavel falling in favour of trainer Robbie Medina, acting for owner and breeder Joe Allen, at $1.5 million. The price was not bettered over two days of selling.

The filly was bred in Kentucky by John Magnier, Derrick Smith and Michael Tabor and is the fourth produce of the Irish 1000 Guineas winner Marvellous, a daughter of Galileo. Already the dam of the stakes winner Fort Myers, Marvellous is a full-sister to Gleneagles, Happily, Taj Mahal and Coolmore, and she is out of an own-sister to Giant’s Causeway.
