NEARLY 70 years of breeding and racing success, a lifelong passion of Pin Oak Stud’s Josephine Abercrombie, were represented recently when 23 lots went under the hammer at Newtown Paddocks in Lexington. The sale, conducted by Fasig-Tipton, comprised a selection of Pin Oak’s remaining broodmares, weanlings and race fillies, and were offered without reserve by Denali Stud.

The sale topper came in the form of Don’t Leave Me, a nine-year-old graded stakes winner by Lemon Drop Kid. Woodford Thoroughbreds purchased the mare, who was offered in foal to Authentic, for $650,000. Don’t Leave Me is out of Grade 1 winner See How She Runs, and has produced two foals to date, I’m So Sorry (Uncle Mo) who is placed in one start this year at two, and a weanling filly by Medaglia D’Oro. The latter preceded her dam into the ring and was purchased by Rigney Racing for $370,000, the top price paid for a weanling during the sale.
