AMATEUR riders were slow to get going when the season started four weeks ago but numbers have since increased although no one-star competition was held at any of the three Millstreet events.

Even in the Northern region there was poor support for the first one-star class with Denis Currie and his 13-year-old Shannondale Sarco St Ghyvan gelding Arodstown Aramis, winners of the flexi eventing series at The Meadows, having just three rivals to beat at Tyrella (1). Third that day, Holly McClenaghan and her 15-year-old Randi mare Miranda saw off five others on their way to victory last Saturday.
