RAY Barron has enjoyed an excellent start to his Gentlemen’s League Fegentri championship campaign, as after scoring four points in the opening round at Cork, the Limerick-based rider moved to the top of the standings with victory in round two, at a point-to-point in France last weekend.

The race took place on the grounds of French trainer Emmanuel Clayeux, a man that will be familiar to many for consigning a number of six-figure lots in the Cheltenham sales ring in recent times, and for saddling a number of leading cross country performers. Point-to-point racing was only introduced to France by Clayeux last year at his training facility just outside Château-Gontier in the north-west of the country.
