THE recent storms certainly took their toll on field sizes last weekend. Of the 27 races run, the farmers’ hunt race at Punchestown on Sunday was the only race to attract a double-digit field.

That same card was not spared from small fields, however, with just two horses lining up in the five-year-old geldings’ maiden. A day earlier at Oldtown, just 32 horses contested the six races on the card, making it the smallest fixture to have been completed this season.
