WITH unseasonably heavy rain threatening to disrupt the weekend’s racing as we go to press, it is good to know that Horse Racing Ireland had no hesitation in setting out a contingency plan should today’s sport at the Curragh be forced to cancel. The Saturday card would simply move to Monday.

This ability to adapt, and the readiness of such a plan, is a credit to the racing authority. The position of the major Group 1 races, in particular, in the international calendar of such events is vital, and these races cannot be easily delayed for any length of time. Fingers crossed that such a move is not required.
