AFTER ending a six-year spell in the wilderness at Down Royal a couple of months ago, the Natalia Lupini-trained Abstraction (16/1) struck again in the Recruit Island Handicap over five furlongs. The nine-year-old avoided being seriously hampered when Jungle Jane forfeited a winning chance by veering right across the track inside the distance and Abstraction then finished out well to deny Fridtjof Nansen by a neck. The Raintree Racing Partnership-owned winner was providing apprentice Paddy Harnett with the third winner of his career.

An even bigger-priced winner was lying in wait of the first division of the 45-65 rated Myhomecare.ie Handicap where the 33/1 shot Farnese struck for Denis Hogan and Joe Doyle. A £5,000 purchase in May, this Juddmonte cast off was yet another inexpensively sourced winner for owner James McAuley and he left the form of three heavy maiden defeats well behind to get home by a head from the favourite Munaajaat.
