GORDON Elliott struck with a 287/1 treble at the northern venue courtesy of three different jockeys.

Kelly’s Birr was having her first start for Elliott and used every yard of the extended two miles and five-furlong trip in the Randox Handicap Hurdle.

From fourth on the long run-in, Corey McGivern drove her past Mighty Jeremy close home to score by a length and a-quarter at 13/2 for owner John P Kelly.

Assistant trainer Lisa O’Neill said: “She is a lovely filly and when she came to us it was all about getting her settled, and getting her to finish out her race.

“She settled really well today and Corey has given her a great ride. She handled that track really well, the main thing was to get her settled.”

Ossifer Hops won the Quinn Estate Agents Maiden Hurdle by the narrowest margin of a nose for owners J.A. Mooney, Raymond Moore Jnr and Raymond C Moore.

The 9/2 shot was locked together with 6/5 favourite Ring O Roses on the uphill climb for home and got the verdict under a strong drive from Denis O’Regan.

Superb ride

O’Neill said: “Denis gave him a superb ride - he wasn’t really travelling past the stands with a circuit to go. Denis knows him really well and he stayed all the way to the line. He battled it out - he has such a game, gritty attitude.

“He has turned the form around with Henry’s horse (de Bromhead, Ring O Roses) in their maiden hurdle in Navan.

“He will probably be campaigned throughout the summer because he will enjoy the drying ground going into the summer months.”

Return To Base (6/1) then outgunned 3/1 favourite Theonewedreamof in the Randox Mares Handicap Hurdle to complete the treble.

Danny Gilligan produced the eight-year-old mare to lead from Will You Win over a furlong out and she kept on best to see off a keeping-on Theonewedreamof by a length and three-quarters for owner Mrs Ann Marie McManus.

“She’s really game. Danny (Gilligan) gave her a good ride and always had her in a nice position. She had plenty of weight on her back, so taking the 7lb off was a big bonus,” O’Neill said.

“The drying ground probably helped her as well, some of her best form is on good ground. She has loads of stamina and the hill really suited her as well.”

Crawfords continue their winning run

OTTIZZINI made the breakthrough for Stuart Crawford in the Rory’s Miles2Mayo Maiden Hurdle.

The six-year-old mare went off 2/1 favourite after a third place on her last run at this track in April.

She tracked the leaders before J.J. Slevin sent her to the front at the penultimate flight. She moved clear after the last and took the honours by three and a half lengths for owners Victoria Brann, Catherine Gabbett and Anthea Smyth.

Slevin said: “She’s a consistent mare. I learned a bit from her from the first run here, you just have to let her flow along. She was jumping quite well.

“A bit long at the third-last and got under the last, but she has won well at the death.”

Double up

Slevin doubled up on Ocean Legacy in the Horatio Group Handicap Chase over an extended two miles and seven furlongs.

The 8/1 shot got to grips with 7/2 favourite Walking The Walk after the last and went on by four lengths for trainer Dermot McLoughlin.

Slevin, in David Eiffe’s colours, said: “A tough lady, a good jumping mare. She won on her second-last run and was on the floor the last day, but she enjoyed the track and stuck at it well. She’s a trier.”

Noise sounds good for McNally

FULL Noise was a comfortable winner of the Cosy Roof Handicap Chase over an extended two miles and three furlongs.

The 4/5 favourite was pushed along by Keith Donoghue to challenge Likable Chancer on the run-in and hit the front in the closing stages. From there, he drew two and three quarter-lengths clear of the runner-up.

Owner/trainer Ronan McNally said: “Keith (Donoghue) was disappointed with his jumping, he said his heart was in his mouth the whole way.

“He said he wasn’t happy with his jumping and that has been his achilles heel. That is why he is rated a wee bit lower than over hurdles.

“Possibly step him up in trip and give him a wee bit more time with his jumping. He’s still big and raw, he’s a big baby. He still needs a bit more time.

“Keith is a horseman, he hunts them around. He’s very, very good.”

Routed

Extrapolation made all and routed the opposition in the Racing TV INH Flat Race.

The grey gelding was soon clear before being given a breather at the half-way stage by Eoin O’Brien. He then moved clear again with three furlongs to go and powered in by 10 lengths at 3/1.

Trainer Richard O’Brien said: “It was nicer ground there today and he’s a lovely horse. He’s a horse we could try on the flat.

“I’m delighted for Michael and Joan Toomey (owners) and delighted for their support. They will have a bit of fun with him across the summer.

“Eoin was suspended while Ray (Barron) was riding him. Ray did a terrific job and delighted to have Eoin back. We have luck together.”
