AN already stunning season for Johnny Murtagh took yet another turn for the better at Down Royal yesterday as the red-hot trainer reeled off a treble headed by the success of the vastly improved Red Kelly in the Boylesports Ulster Derby.

After his stunning handicap debut at Leopardstown at the start of the month this Red Kelly Syndicate-owned son of Manduro was hit with a 21lb hike in the ratings. Nonetheless the manner of that Leopardstown win suggested that Red Kelly would be more than good enough to cope with his revised rating and the 9/4 favourite did so in fine style under Shane Kelly whose eight-winner haul for the season is a personal best for him in Ireland.
