WISSAHICKON was John Gosden’s fourth winner of the Cambridgeshire, making him the joint winningmost trainer in the race in the modern era, up there with Jeremy Glover (Balthus, Rambo’s Hall twice, and Clifton Fox).

It is never easy to compare horses across different generations, and Saturday’s Cambridgeshire was a very different race to the one that Halling won in 1994. Back then, the highest-rated horse raced off a mark of 104 and the lowest-rated raced off a mark of 73. That’s a range of 31lbs.
