IT was difficult to make ground from the rear on the easy ground at the Curragh on Saturday, more so than on Sunday, by which time the ground had dried up a little.

Five of the seven winners on Saturday raced handily from flagfall. Creggs Pipes led all the way, Brother Bear was handy, Glamorous Approach was always handy, Gordon Lord Byron was always handy. Churchill was second last early on, but there were only six runners in the Guineas, and he was never too far off the pace.
