IT was a case of déjà vu last weekend up at Ayr. Last season the hopes of retaining the British trainers’ championship hinged on Vicente in the Scottish National and he stepped up and scored.

This season again we relied on Vicente to try and keep the dream alive and again he proved up to the job and won. Purchased before the Aintree showpiece by Trevor Hemmings, he failed to get further than the first that day, and the plan quickly rerouted him back to Ayr. Ridden brilliantly again by Sam Twiston-Davies, he jumped and travelled with ease before running down Cogry in the shadow of the post.
