GARY Swift, a businessman, racehorse owner and race sponsor, passed away peacefully at his home, Stoneyford Stud, Manor Kilbride, Co Wicklow, last Friday week. He was in his 88th year.

A long time sponsor and supporter of both Leopardstown and Phoenix Park racecourses, he had horses in training over the past four decades with Michael Halford, Robbie Osborne, Francis Flood, and P.J. Prendergast.

Gary was managing director of Swift International, the family-owned manufacturing business, which was one of Ireland’s largest exporters during the 70s, 80s and 90s. A keen philanthropist, through his position as a Knight of the Order of Saint Lazarus, he contributed significantly to its activities.

Gary will be sadly missed by his children Helen, Susan, Claire, Gary and John.
