A COUPLE of months ago I wrote about a significant John Porter Stakes win for Dartmouth in the week of Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday. Last week at Royal Ascot there was further joy when the colt narrowly denied Highland Reel in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes, crediting the monarch with her 23rd success at the royal meeting. I will repeat, in summary form, my notes from a previous edition.

A four-year-old son of Dubawi and out of the Galileo mare Galatee, Dartmouth was bred by Darley and gifted to the Queen. He is the third stakes winner from the first four foals - all of which won - of his dam, following the dual Group 2 winner Manatee (by Monsun) and the listed winning filly Gaterie (by Dubai Destination).
