JORDAN COYLE dominated Sunday’s six and seven-year-old final taking the win with the seven-year-

old Carnoneybridge Challenger.

Sold as a foal through the Cavan sales ring in 2008, the Hermes De Reve gelding returned to the venue to prove best of the 32 starters in the Radisson Blu Farnham Estate-sponsored final.

A total of 15 combinations made it through to the timed decider.

Tholm Keane and Highly Efficient were pathfinders and produced a second clear in a time of 39.40 for eventual third place. Second in Sophie Richards and Vagabond de Kezeg they saw their chances fade early on when faulting at the first fence.

Deirdre Reilly and San Marco Z then followed suit collecting four faults to put them out of the running.

Alex Butler and Eldorado produced a second double clear in a fairly slow 44.78 which would leave them outside the top-six.

It all went wrong for the next competitor, Shane Goggins riding Corraghoe Flash The Cash, who had three fences down for 12 faults.

The Belgian-bred gelding Indian River Van Perschroeven was next. Owned by Glen Leddy and ridden by Clem McMahon, this pair came closest to Coyle’s time when they stopped the clock at 38.71 to finish in eventual second place.

Daniel Coyle and Harakiri Z, a Belgian-bred six-year-old by Hardrock Z then lodged a round which would have put them into the runner- up spot in a time of 37.14 but they had the final fence down for four faults.

John Floody and Ballyknock Diamond faulted at the second fence to incur four faults in a time of 38.68.

Neal Fearon was next riding Magic Guidam. He too collected four faults, his coming just two fences from home.

Gabriel Slattery produced the first fault-free round aboard Opis Day but in a fairly cautious time of 40.26 which would be good enough for eventual fifth place.

Coyle was twelfth to go and his round featured accurate, well executed turns throughout to see him shoot straight into the lead in a time of 36.50.

Next to take it on was Karlswood jockey Ross Mulholland with a new addition to the stable, the seven-year-old French-bred Flipper D’Elle gelding Under Fire Du Lozon. They too kept a clean sheet but in a slightly slower 39.51 for eventual fourth place.

Young rider Jenny Rankin and Ninparo were the penultimate pair to go and were clear in 40.45 for sixth place. Last to go Cathal McMunn and Garristown Lux had one fence down in 38.35.

FIVE-YEAR-OLDS

Sunday’s five-year-old final title was well won by James Hogg riding European Cruise (Cruising –Hortensia De Litrange ex Quel hero De Muze). No one came close to catching the pair; their jump-off time of 26.65 was significantly ahead of the rest of the field.

Shane Dalton came closest riding Noel’s Horse; they stopped the clock almost two seconds slower in 28.63 to finish runners up.

Third place went to Portmore champions Peter Smyth and Templepatrick Welcome Limmerick, they stopped the clock at 29.39.

FOUR-YEAR-OLDS

The four-year-old final was sponsored by Euro Stallions and Robertson Equine. A total of 20 combinations lined out before judges Darragh Kerins, Robert Daly and Greg Broderick.

There was no surprise when Nicholas Butler took the top spot riding Ivor Broderick’s Anglo European Studbook Champion stallion Goodluck VDL (Baltic VDL – Cassini).

Second place went to James O’Grady and Cathal McMunn’s Belgian stallion Lucas Van De Hellevoort (Der Senaat 111 – Hemmingway) ridden by McMunn while third place went to Cavan’s own Victoria Clarke and Malbay Dreamer (OBOS Quality – Leydens Dream).
