THE Corinthian Challenge is a popular charity race series run by the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund to raise awareness and much needed funds for the national charity.

Challengers are essentially volunteers who apply to participate in the three-race series, these challengers have been put through their paces as part of a thorough interview process, completed an assessment at RACE to ensure they are competent in the saddle and they each have a target of €10,000 to raise via their Just Giving page too.

This is all before they start the inevitable health and fitness regime and months of riding out, which goes hand in hand with partaking in the series.

In honour of their commitment and participation in this once in a lifetime charity race series together with Irish Injured Jockeys we are delighted to bring you their profiles, news, and updates over the coming months.

As part of our ongoing support of Irish Injured Jockeys and their Corinthian Challenge Charity Race Series, this week we caught up with Laura Burnett to give her the opportunity of come column exposure through a profile piece, which we hope will also assist with her fundraising efforts.

England to Dublin

Originally from England, Laura has been living in Dublin for the past four years and currently works in the real estate industry on residential and commercial development schemes.

Laura has been riding since she was a child and has always loved horses.

During the early stages of the pandemic, while Ireland was experiencing its first lockdown, Laura started riding out for Ross O’Sullivan. Laura commented: “When I started riding out for Ross things somehow escalated to the point where I felt taking part in the Corinthian Challenge was a good idea!” And here she is today preparing for the final race of the series. It wasn’t just a good idea it was a great one, which we’re sure you’ll agree.

“This summer has been very exciting, taking part in the Corinthian Challenge and fundraising on behalf of the Irish Injured Jockeys. I think everyone in racing knows the excellent work done by Irish Injured Jockeys and to be able to contribute to this whilst also getting to enjoy the challenge of taking to part in the series is a fantastic opportunity.”

Laura has been working with one of her sponsors Darren McKenna and his team at Collider Studios to video document her journey throughout the Corinthian Challenge Race Series. She has done a variety of pieces on camera including action shots on and off the track and interviews with key personalities in the industry in order to help raise awareness and funding for Irish Injured Jockeys.
