THE Corinthian Challenge is a charity race series run by Irish Injured Jockeys Fund to raise awareness and much needed funds for the national charity.

Challengers are essentially volunteers who apply to participate in the three-race series, these challengers have been put through their paces as part of a thorough interview process, completed an assessment at RACE to ensure they are competent in the saddle and they each have a target of €10,000 to raise via their Just Giving page too.

This is all before they start the inevitable health and fitness regime and months of riding out, which goes hand in hand with partaking in the series.

In honour of their commitment and participation in this once in a lifetime charity race series together with Irish Injured Jockeys we are delighted to bring you their profiles, news and updates over the coming months.

As part of our ongoing support of Irish Injured Jockeys and their Corinthian Challenge Charity Race Series this week we caught up with Joan Tyner to give her the opportunity of a profile piece and to assist with her fundraising efforts.

Joan from Kinsale, Co Cork grew up in a busy racing household and admires her parents for their hard work and dedication to racing.

Joan currently works with Goffs as a Bloodstock Executive so it’s been a very busy week for this Corinthian Challenger. On her time off she rides out for Ross O’Sullivan in the mornings before work and at her home at the weekends.

Wisdom

Joan’s mother Mary has taken part in our previous Corinthian Challenge Series in 2019 and hence has passed down her valuable wisdom and experience to Joan as she prepares for the final race of the series.

Joan commented: “I am delighted to be taking part in this year’s Corinthian Challenge following in the footsteps of my mum Mary, who took part in 2019 in memory of my brother Jack.

“I’ve always wanted to ride in a race and the Corinthian Challenge is a fantastic opportunity to do so.”
