THE inclusion of equestrian activities in phase one of the Government’s tiered plan to re-open Ireland undoubtedly was a welcome initial move this week towards trying to get the €816m Irish Sport Horse industry back on track.
While it is a small step, it represents a giant leap from where we were. We are one of very few activities to be allowed publicly resume - in some limited shape or form - and much work has gone on behind the scenes between Horse Sport Ireland, the relevant Government departments and agencies as well as Sport Ireland to this end. Our flagship racing industry is getting its foot on the first rung of the ladder on June 8th for example.
