KARL Thornton’s disqualified Down Royal maiden winner Wakea was, predictably enough, a short-priced favourite for the Mylerstown Maiden Hurdle at Clonmel on Thursday and duly set the record straight when providing amateur Johnny Barry with the first leg of a double.

The five-year-old adopted forcing tactics and opened up from two out, where his closest rivals came under pressure, to beat Brog Deas Nua by four and three-quarter lengths.
