THE ice age of 30,000 years ago made a massive contribution to fox hunting in the Ballymacad’s hunt country. The landscape is made up of drumlins, many covered in gorse which always has a snug dry base, making them natural homes for foxes. Add to that the small bogs and hazel woods and then you have variety of cover, which means foxes don’t have far to travel to avoid prying eyes.
