Sam Watson, Irish event rider

1. If money was no object what Christmas gift would you like to see under the tree this year?

There’s a perfect mile-long gallop route through the farm, if Santa could dig it out with his sleigh and deliver a bit of sand I’d be a happy man.

2. What was the best Christmas gift you ever received?

Sparks (Sam’s wife Hannah, known as Sparkles) gives great presents, but in 2011 she said yes to my present (an engagement ring) and that’s been the greatest gift I could have dreamed of.

3. And the worst?

A bar of peanut brittle from my Dad.

4. Any New Year’s resolutions?

I wouldn’t be a believer in those now. Life is a relentless and daily pursuit of progress. If I was waiting for the New Year to get going I’d not get much done!

5. Favourite Christmas movie?

My boys are six and seven now, I can’t wait to watch Home Alone with them, just hope they don’t start setting traps around the house for me.

6. Favourite Christmas song?

I sing them all with great passion, volume and enthusiasm, but not a single note in tune. I’d even listen to a few Christmas carols in the evenings.

7. And finally, Brussel sprouts – yay or nay?

Ah, the Joe Biden of vegetables. They don’t offend me, I’m happy enough to have them, but I wouldn’t say they’re overly inspiring.

Brussel sprouts are profoundly evil.

1. If money was no object what Christmas gift would you like to see under the tree this year?

One of those fancy robot lawnmowers would be great! Or the version with four hooves and a tail, all expenses and running costs paid.

2. Worst Christmas gift ever?:

Nothing stands out, but socks are underwhelming!

3. Any New Year’s resolutions?

Summit Carrauntoohil again and less screen time.

5. Favourite Christmas movie?

Bad Santa or Home Alone, for the laughs.

6. Favourite Christmas song?

Fairytale of New York

7. And finally, brussel sprouts – yay or nay?

Yay, but once a year definitely suffices.
