HOT on the heels of a successful elite foal sale and two major jumping shows, Cavan is quickly back action to stage a mixed renewal of performance horses, young stock and Irish Draughts. Running over three days, commencing next Tuesday and opening with the former sector, the catalogue offers over 300 lots.

The performance sale offers the usual mix of horses and ponies for both the leisure and the competition rider, while Wednesday’s young stock sale is highlighted by a Premier Selection of well related foals (36). Thursday meanwhile is devoted to the National Registered Irish Draught sale, which features both breeding and sporting stock.

Older stock

Lot 27 Z Time, reg 8yo b m 165cms by Z Wellie 72 out of Funnytime (Heritage Fortunas). Z Time is a grade B show jumping mare with 182 SJI points. Campaigning to date in classes up to 1.25m, she also qualified and competed in the five-year-old classes at the RDS in 2017. A sad sale due to her rider’s study commitments, she is a safe ride.

Lot 29 Unnamed, reg 8yo b m 165cms by Heigh Ho Dubh out of O’Briens Lady (Crannagh Hero). This experienced mare has hunted with the East Clare Farmers for the past four years. She is happy to be at the front or at the rear of the field, and has proved to be a very brave and genuine jumper.

Lot 35 Pinball, reg 7yo ch g 168cms by Beachball out of Beechland Imp (Master Imp). The winner of 31 SJI points to date, from a limited number of shows, this gelding is currently competing at 1.10m level and is ready to upgrade.

Lot 48 CFS Flexible Finance, reg 5yo b g 162cms by Flex A Bill out CFS Fair Exchange (Flipper D’Elle).A half-brother to the smart six-year-old CSF Blue Lagoon ridden by Taylor Cummins, this gelding has been slowly produced and is now ready to progress further.

Lot 57 Lavill Doc, reg 5yo ch g 170cms by Indoctro out of Lavill Penny (Welcome Flagmount). The winner of 33 SJI points to date, in classes up to 1.10m, this easy horse is thought likeley to progress in either show jumping or eventing.

Lot 55 Now You Like It, reg 5yo b g 170cms by Steady Cruise out of Miss Rikie (Sir Rivie). This traditionally-bred gelding has enjoyed a successful showing career, both in hand and under saddle. In addition, he has hunted with the North Mayo Harriers and has competed in training shows and hunter trials.

Four-year-olds

Lot 78 Derra Dream Time, reg 4yo br g 166cms by Ars Vivendi out of Lokota (Athlet-Z). Carrying a blacktype continental pedigree, this gelding is exceptionally well-related. He is a half-brother to Cadiz 34 (1.40m), out of the 1.45m mare Lokota, who in turn is a sibling to four notable 1.40-1.45m performers, as well as Mirage (1.60m).

Lot 83 Paris, reg 4yo b f 168cms by Financial Reward out of Forans Sunny Hogan (Young Edmond). This youngster is registered with the SJI (under the name Ibiscus La Bella Vita) and, the winner of one point (from just five outings) has qualified for the Mullingar tour final. A filly with three uphill paces, she is described as a “real superstar for the future who will excel in any sphere of the equine industry”.

Lot 87 Lagans Constellation, reg 4yo ch g 170cms by OBOS Quality 004 out of Thornfield Lucy (Cruising). Having embarked on his show jumping career after lockdown, he currently has five SJI points and is jumping confidently around 80 and 90cm courses. Described as having a lovely character, his dam is a half-sister to the CCI4* event horse Hugh Knows ridden by Karen O’Connor.

Lot 98 Carlanstown Ballerina, reg 3yo b f 160cms by Balou de Rouet out of Plenty of Courage (Courage II). A smartly bred filly with broodmare potential, she counts the British-based show jumper Carlanstown Cappuchino (David Simpson) as a half-brother, while the dam is a half-sister to the dual Lanaken representative Coppindell (1.50m) and to Ban Du Carel (Grade A).

Lot 104 Fairygold Lizzie, reg 3yo ch f 162cms by Olympic Lux out of Cougar Lizzie (Guy Cavalier). A quality filly whose good movement and jump, is combined with a stout pedigree. Her dam is a half-sister to the dam of the show jumper Lisona (OBOS Quality), who competed at the London Olympics with Jessica Springsteen. With breeding lines to go forward, this filly is accompanied by a full set of X-rays.

Lot105 Kilcandra Doctro, reg 3yo bl g 163cms by Orestus out of Bonnie Dolly (Bonnie Prince). From a contemporary proven family, this gelding is a half-brother to the Germany-based CCI2* event horse Kilcandra Ocean Power (formerly ridden by Michael Jung) and to the home-campaigned Kilcandra Bonnie Reward (CCI3*).

Lot 106 Camus Lady, reg 3yo b f 163cms by Sligo Candy Boy out of Cool a Tee (Western Promise). A filly with paddock potential when her competitve career is over, Camus Lady is out of the international 1.50m jumping mare Cool A Tee (Peter Smyth and Jordan Coyle). Adding depth, a full-brother to the dam is the Italian-ridden Western Staion (1.45m).

Lot 108 Sligo Cavalier Star, reg 3yo br f 163cms by Sligo Candy Boy out of Finod Cavalier (Gino II).Another by the prolific stallion Sligo Candy Boy, this filly has a damline going back to Cavalier Royale. Her only sibling to date, Karvaleo, is currently eventing at FEI level CCI2* in America, while two of her dam’s full-siblings are the British Nations Cup event horse Gino Royale (CCI3*) and Ginos Cavalier, who jumped to Grand Prix level in Ireland. This filly is bred for both disciplines and considered likley to excel in either.

Lot 114 CFH Tyson Beat, reg 3yo b f 164cms by Tyson out of Douglas Darco (Ard VDL Douglas).A half-sister to the American-based event horse MGH Heartbeat (CCI3*) as well as the up and coming show jumper Coolnamona, placed in the five-year-old championships at Hickstead last season. From the maternal family of Rip Tide (1.60m), Irish Anna (1.45m) and the event horse Tullibards Hawkwind(CCI4*).

Lot 126 Otto, reg 3yo gr g 167cms by Cornet Obolensky out of Elite (Darco). A well-related half-brother to Zilite (1.40m), and the dam jumped to 1.35m. She in turn is a full-sister to the Oliver Philippearts-ridden DJ vd Kattevennen Z (1.55m).

Lot 130 Roscrib Candy Cruise, reg 3yo ch g 168cms by Sligo Candy Boy out of Roscrib Reflex (Ringfort Cruise). Accompanied by an impressive photo in the catalogue, this athletic youngster is showing super movement and a great technique to jump. By the popular sire of event horses and show jumpers Sligo Candy Boy, he is thought to have the ability to excel in either sphere.

Featuring a well-known Irish-ridden damline, this filly is out of the useful Kimono Sash (1.35m with Aisling McGregor), a sister to the dual Lanaken representative Dunganstown Boy (1.50m) as well as to Beir Bua (1.40m with Kenneth Graham). The second dam bred Rincoola Abu (1.60m) who is the dam of Rincoola Rua (1.50m), as well as Rincoola Go Deo (1.45m) and Hill Cruise (1.45m).

Lot 207, reg b c f by Cornets Son out of Erne Clover Z (Aldatus Z). This colt is a sibling to Erne Riverrun (1.35m) ridden by Francis Connors, while the third dam is Erne Diamond (1.40m). She hails from a prolific family which includes a host of graded performers among which are Edera di Franiacorta (1.50m) and Erne Brigade (1.40m)

Lot 211 Belfields My Pilothango, reg b c f by Pilothage out of Captainjuniorbelfieldslady (Castlelawn Captain Junior). Dam is a sister to the Shane Dalton-ridden Belfields Captain (1.40m) and from the family Easy Q (1.50m).

Lot 215 Cushlas Victorius, reg b f f by Victor E out of Une Ardente De Vie (Kantate Du Syre). This filly is a sister to the Robyn Moran-partnered Cushlas Fryday (1.35m), while the dam is sibling to A Picassop de Vie (1.45m) and several others.

Lot 220 Rodrigo, reg br c f by Vittorio out of Elf (Diarado). Dam is a sibling to the Nations Cup performer G and C Sonny (1.60m) ridden by Rodrigo Pessoa, as well as Alou (1.45m) and several others. Moving back a generation, the maternal line is also highlighted by Wish (1.50m) and the puissance specialist Pelvin Z.

Lot 227 OLSH May Fly, reg b f f by Imperial Tiger out of Ballybolger Georgina (Craigsteel). One for the eventing fraternity could be this filly whose dam is a sibling to the Irish event team stalwart Ballybolger Bushman (CCI4*) ridden by Sam Watson and from the family of numerous other event horses. The sire also hails from a world class event family.

Irish Draughts

Lot 282 unnamed, reg 1yo gr f by Killountain Cross (dam by Gentle Diamond). This yearling filly was shown twice in 2019, winning the Munster championship at the Bantry Show.

Lot 285 Dowdstown Ruby, reg gr f by Moylough Legacy out of Dowdstown Jane (Silver Granite). A filly foal whose gold merit awarded dam won the senior Irish Draught mare class at the RDS in 2012. That mare has bred five previous RDS winners, as well as Dowdstown Purple, who was last year’s Balmoral champion performance Irish Draught and RDS reserve champion. A quality, correct filly, with outstanding breeding and bloodlines, she is thought to be a definite champion for the future.

Lot 299 Rosses Miss Emma, reg 2yo gr f by Gentle Diamond out of Rosses Quiet Kim (It’s the Quiet Man). A Class 1-registered Irish Draught, this show standard filly qualified for national yearling championship in 2019. Her dam Rosses Quiet Kim won young stock championship at the National Breed Show as a two-year-old, was successful at the RDS and won many more championships throughout her career. She is sister to Hillowen Decey, the Germany-based Irish Draught international show jumper (1.30).

Lot 322 Inisfree Cool Grace, reg 15yo gr m by Coolcronan Wood out of Ginger Grace (Ginger Dick).A well-related half-sister to the RDS winner Lady In Red Star, as well as the stallion Young Carrabawn. This mare is in foal to the grade A show jumping stallion and RDS Irish Draught champion Rakish Ri.
