WITH a top price of €17,500 and seven five-figure returns, Thursday’s Cavan Elite foal sale recorded some of its best figures in recent years. Boosted by a high-class catalogue, the 27 lots forward delivered a major hike in clearance to 78% (54% in 2019), albeit with a marginal dip in average of €8,950 (€9,446).

An upbeat Stuart Clarke commented, “It was hard to say beforehand which way it would go in this current situation, but I’m very, very pleased that it all worked out so well. We had a strong turnover and clearance, and looking at the list of purchasers, the foals went in every direction. We had a good group of foals, and I’m glad for the vendors that it worked out for them. We also had plenty of bidders for those that missed out and for the embryos, but they just fell short of their reserves.”
