THE Foal Levy paid at the time of registration for the recent Dundalk winner Carried was the subject of a case taken in the Small Claims Court on Monday by Monasterevin breeder Gerry Callanan against Horse Racing Ireland.

Sitting at Naas District Court, Judge Desmond Zaidan found in favour of the owner of Nanallac Stud who was seeking a refund of €154, based on the payment he made in 2010. Callanan paid a charge based on the advertised covering fee of €12,500 for Footstepsinthesand in 2009, arguing that since he paid just €7,500 for the nomination he should have been charged a lower Foal Levy fee.
