IN recent times many aspects of everyday life have moved online, from shopping and entertainment to travel and business.

Launched last autumn, Buyanom is an online trading platform for stallion nominations, where the owners of those nominations and broodmare owners can discover each other and do business. It has quickly gained a decent following.

Buyanom is the brainchild of Luke Lillingston and Ted Voute. They appointed me as the company’s Irish representative.

The website allows people to trade stallion nominations online via bids registered with the person selling the nomination. Anyone with a stallion nomination can pay to register their nomination. And to buy a nomination all you need is an email address.

I’m delighted to announce that membership of Buyanom is free until the end of the season for broodmare owners. And, as an added incentive from now until the end of the breeding season, there is no charge for deals completed on Buyanom.

We’ve got support from a lot of stallion share holders and some stud farms such as Cheveley Park Stud and Shadwell. In all there are 80 stallions listed from all ranges of the market on the site with nominations available.

At this stage of the season, one would expect many sellers are ready to negotiate a very good deal. So my advice to broodmare owners is to go online now, see what’s available and make an offer. It really is a question of how much would you like to pay?

Everyone is welcome to use the site. If you don’t have a mare to cover you really need to find one as soon as you can!

Among the flat stallions with nominations for sale on Buyanomm are Aclaim, Almanzor, Cable Bay, Camacho, Cracksman, Dark Angel, Decorated Knight, Golden Horn, Harry Angel, Highland Reel, Kendargent, Kodiac, Make Believe, Muhaarar, Nathaniel, New Bay, Profitable, Ribchester, Showcasing, Soldier’s Call, Territories, Ulysses and Waldgeist

We also have a selection of nominations to National Hunt stallions available, including Berkshire, Eliot, Ocovango, Policy Maker, Proconsul, Shantaram, Sumbal and Zambezi Sun.

A lot of broodmare owners are getting extremely shrewd business done on Buyanom and, as the saying goes, if your not in you can’t win!

This is something different for bloodstock people to get used to. Most will be used to picking up the phone but, trust me, it is well worth trying. The vast majority of breeders who have completed a deal on Buyanom are very happy.

Believe it or not, the website has proven even more popular since the Covid-19 outbreak, as many of us now have more time to browse and bid. The beauty is you can do this at any time of the day, anywhere in the world.

Since the site was launched we have received some good suggestions from industry leaders on how the service may be improved. Among the developments in the pipeline are e-signatures and automatic email to the stud farm to let then know that a contract has been issued to a particular mare, so everyone’s in the loop.

It’s still only mid-April so mares covered this month will be expecting a March foal. There is still plenty of time to engage with the site, make offers and get good deals done.

I also think this is the best year in which to get your mare covered as it’s very likely the world economy will be booming again when the resultant foal is born and comes to market.

In the words of Seamus Heaney, “if we winter this one out, we can summer anywhere.”
