SHEIKH Hamdan Al Maktoum may have experienced one or two disappointments of late – Battaash in the Nunthorpe the most high profile – but his colours have still been a regular fixture in the winner’s enclosure.

He won the opening Group 3 Betfred Mobile Strensall Stakes at York last Saturday with Mustashry, a lightly-raced four-year-old who is still improving. Trained by Sir Michael Stoute and ridden by Jim Crowley, Mustashry had to work hard to get to long-time leader Forest Ranger but finally wore him down to score by three-parts of a length with tough old campaigner Sovereign Debt in third.
