KLASSIQUE, for William Haggas, was the other blacktype winner on the day, staying on too well for True Self under a well-judged Danny Tudhope ride to take the Group 3 Pinnacle Stakes. Trainer’s wife Maureen Haggas explained that she was hard to keep condition on last year, and difficult to train as a result, but has now matured both mentally and physically, with the results showing on the track.

She clearly handled the conditions well, which is a big help, but as a daughter of Galileo out of Matron Stakes winner Chachamaidee, she is bred to be very smart indeed, and her action is not one of a filly who needs the mud. The Lancashire Oaks over the course and distance is an obvious next target, but the suggestion from Maureen Haggas was that she might benefit from a further step up in trip, which would bring races like Goodwood’s Group 2 Lillie Langtry Stakes into the equation.
