ANOTHER trainer to enjoy a highly successful campaign was Andrew Balding, who won the final listed race of the season, the Marathonbet Wentworth Stakes, with 2/1 favourite Donjuan Triumphant, who provided a poignant success, as it was the first win for these colours since the tragic death of Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, who had become increasingly involved in racing under his King Power Racing banner.
One or two of Balding’s classier inmates benefitted from rain at the right time and that was certainly true here as the going became soft and Donjuan Triumphant closed in from 5/2. He had to work hard for James Doyle but finally wore down Kevin Ryan’s Hey Jonesy to score by a head, with Eirene third.
