PROTEKTORAT (Dan/Harry Skelton) made a good impression when making all on his chase debut at Carlisle, where he jumped boldly if out to his left at times. He again impressed in that department as he shrugged aside the challenge of recent course-and-distance winner Southfield Stone in the SSS Super Alloys Supports Racing Welfare Novices’ Chase.

The well-backed 6/5 favourite was almost foot perfect from the front, and while Harry Cobden on the runner-up was keen to keep the pressure on, he could offer no more from the turn-in, and was 17 lengths adrift at the line.
