LAST Sunday week at a polo club two hours outside Shanghai, the latest initiative to kick start thoroughbred racing in China took place. Organised by the China Horse Club and billed as a cultural event, the four-race card followed the running of a similar event at Hohhot in 2013.

The meeting was organised by Teo Ah Khing, no stranger to European horsemen in recent years, as the co-owner of Derby winner Australia.
