THE recent loss of Deep Impact (Sunday Silence) will be felt for many years to come and we will undoubtedly have many reminders of his prowess on an ongoing basis. One of these came at the weekend when the Andre Fabre-trained Savarin won the Group 3 Prix d’Aumale to retain her unbeaten record. The two-year-old is a full-sister to the Group 3 Prix Messidor winner Geniale and to Go Timing. The latter is group-placed at three this year in Japan.

Bred by Shadai Farm, Savarin races for Masaaki Matsushima and is the fourth foal, runner and winner for her dam, the champion Sarafina. That daughter of Refuse To Bend (Sadler’s Wells) was bred by and raced for His Highness the Aga Khan and half of her six victories were gained at Group 1 level, in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, Prix de Diane (French Oaks) and Prix Saint-Alary. She was placed in the Group 1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. At the end of her racing career she was sold to Japan where her fifth produce is an own-brother to the dual winner Plus (Victoire Pisa).
